On April 9, 2026, management’s legal counsel sent a “cease and desist” letter threatening eviction to the Chair of the Fifty-Five Fifty Tenants Association .
Let’s be clear about what that means.
This was not a routine communication.
This was not a neighbor dispute.
This was a legal threat directed at the elected leader of a tenants association.
The Chair is not acting alone.
He represents a growing number of residents who have come together to raise concerns, document conditions, and advocate for better treatment in this building.
So when management’s lawyers target the Chair, they are not just targeting an individual.
They are targeting the entire tenants association.
And we are responding accordingly:
We stand fully behind our Chair.
Just weeks ago, in early March, residents and management met in person and agreed to move forward in a more constructive, good-faith manner.
In response, the Tenants Association took a meaningful step:
We removed all references to Avenue5 staff by name from our website.
We didn’t have to do that.
We did it to de-escalate and create space for a more productive relationship.
We kept our side of that understanding.
Management, apparently, did not.
Instead of continuing that dialogue, management escalated.
The April 9 letter:
This is not what good-faith engagement looks like.
Legal threats against tenant leadership have a clear purpose:
To intimidate.
To isolate.
To make people think twice before speaking up.
It’s meant to send a message:
Stay quiet.
But it also sends another message, whether intended or not:
That management would rather escalate than engage.
The Tenants Association will continue, for now, to honor its good-faith decision to avoid naming individual staff on this website.
But let’s be clear:
That restraint is a choice, not a concession.
And it exists alongside a growing record of:
When management chooses to go after the Chair of a tenants association, they are making a decision about how they want to deal with residents.
We’re making our decision too.
We stand together.
Because when they go after one of us, they go after all of us.
